1697...Pirates mercilessly terrorize the Seven Seas, despite the English Embassy's attempts to stop them. Yet in the midst of all these foul, adventure-thirsty cutthroats, one pirate stands out. Her parents having been killed as outlaws, Emma has been raised by pirates. Now eighteen years old and the captain of her own ship, Emma's own adventures are thrilling, but unorthodox. With Heflan, an eccentric Embassy sheriff, constantly on her trail, things seem to get worse when his nephew, Ben, lies his way onto her ship. And when a mysterious treasure map is found, leading to a "treasure from Heaven", will Emma be able to outrun the dangers of being a pirate...while falling in love?

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast moving and a real page turner. It was action packed and held my interest to the last page. The characters were varied and believeable and made for a story that would excite any teen. In fact, I believe the author succeeded in embracing a whole community of new readers beyond that age bracket.I would highly recommend this book as it is well written and thoroughly enjoyable.Product details

Emma of Winds Rachel Anne Hemsley 9780980248647 Books Reviews
This book is an exciting story for kids of all ages of whimsical characters with an intriguing plot.
Love the fact that this author was a teen when she wrote it.
Emma of Winds captured my attention from the first chapter and I couldn't put the book down until I had finished reading it. I was inspired by Emma's courage, authority, independence, and by her tender heart -which she portrayed by helping others, even in the midst of her own difficult circumstances. I was also fascinated by how she won the heart of a young man who went against all societal judgments to join her quest to better the quality of life for some at the risk of losing his own social status. Finally, I liked that she was was powerful in defending herself and in fighting for others, in both a physical and a spiritual sense.
I read Emma of Winds to my sixth grade language arts class last year, and they were completely involved in the story from chapter to chapter. Each day when I finished reading a chapter, they begged me to read another! Emma is a strong female character who can take care of herself, which is a good role model for our young girls. The boys also enjoyed the swashbuckling adventures that the characters experienced. I'm sure that when my language arts classes read the book this year they will enjoy it just as much.
